“For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's!” Romans 14:7-8 (NKJV). Yes, that sums up the life of Prof .E. Laing, affectionately called uncle Yosi, I called him Daddy. Daddy was a father figure to me especially when I lived with him during my formative years at Legon, house no. 5 East, Legon. I recall a few instances at Legon when I fell ill; Daddy made sure I had the best of medical care that brought me back on my feet, and during that time you would visibly see that, he was very concerned. I had the best of primary school education, thanks to him. Daddy was a disciplinarian A1, and ensured that the right thing was done at all times, in short play when its time to play and work hard when it is time to do so. Christmas periods were the most fun days in the house, at Legon. He got X’mas presents for us all. Daddy paid particular attention to details at all times and would demand same from us. He loved us all , Kwamina, Efua, Kofi and myself (William), and provided everything that would make the family comfortable. His death at 83 years is a painful loss; it is my hope and prayer that the good Lord would grant him peaceful rest in his bosom. REST IN PEACE William N. Laing Jnr.
