I first met Prof. Laing as a student at Legon in the late 60s. I had joined the Akuafo choir and on Fridays, after choir practice, Prof Kwamina Dickson would invite us to Legon Hall Senior Common Room for "kyikyinga" (khebab). In those days, going to the Senior Common Room was like entering a "hallowed" environment, but Prof. would be there after his choir practice in Legon Hall chapel and was always welcoming. His humour in those sessions put us at ease and his guidance, humbling. Much later in my academic life, I was privileged to hear him deliver his inaugural lecture. It was one of the best. (I recommend it if you missed it and have not read it yet). Prof., thank you for opening our eyes to the beauty of the environment around us, and for sharing your gifts in so many unexpected ways. Now that the Good Lord has called you in His own good time, rest peacefully in Him. Charlotte Anokwa
