TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF LATE PROFESSOR EBENEZER LAING BY
MANAGEMENT OF
THE COUNCIL FOR SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH (CSIR)


We received the news of the passing on to Glory of Prof. Ebenezer Laing on Saturday 29th April, 2015 with great shock. Prof. Laing has had a professional relationship with the CSIR over the years. He served as a Member of the Governing Council of the CSIR from July 1973 to May 1989 and contributed to building the structures of the CSIR during its formative years.

Indeed, he will be remembered as one of the pioneering Members of the Governing Council, having taken part from the 10th to 72nd Meetings of the Council. Additionally, Prof. Laing served as a Member of the Management Board of the erstwhile NASTLIC which was later transformed into the CSIR-Institute for Scientific and Technological Information (CSIR-INSTI) as well as the Management Board of the former Institute of Aquatic Biology, now CSIR-Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI).

Prof. Laing’s contributions towards the work of the CSIR found expression in several aspects of the Council’s work including serving as External Assessor for the promotion of Research Scientists of the Council and serving as panel member for appointment interviews.

There is no doubt that Prof. Laing has paid his dues to the CSIR and the scientific community, for which he will always be remembered. It is our prayer that the Good Lord will grant you an everlasting resting place.
